Visiting Nicaragua

To travel to Nicaragua, a passport with a minimum validity of 6 months is required. Tourist visas are not required for travelers from major Western countries if the stay does not exceed 90 days. However, all travelers must fill out an online form 7 days before their arrival.

The land of lakes and volcanoes offers nature activities, stunning beaches and good waves for surfing, as well as volcanoes, mountains and lagoons that are all possible to visit. The country also offers wonderful Caribbean islands such as the Corn Islands (Big Corn Island and Little Corn Island). For Caribbean lovers!

Money

The currency of Nicaragua is the córdoba. The US dollar is accepted almost everywhere. Most cities have banks, some with outdoor ATMs that usually offer withdrawals in dollars or córdobas.

More and more businesses accept Visa or MasterCard credit cards. It is a good idea to always carry a small amount of cash for local transactions.

Safety

Although Nicaragua is a poor country, it can be a relatively safe place to travel as long as you exercise caution. Basic safety practices for traveling include: Do not display your wealth, do not carry large sums of money, do not take official taxis or hitchhike at night on highways.

Nicaragua has several additional advantages over its neighbors: safety, absence of hordes of tourists, and a cost of living that makes it a very affordable travel destination.

Weather

Nicaragua is a warm tropical country. There are two seasons. A dry season from November to April and a rainy season from May to October. The Pacific coast is characterized by high temperatures and less rainfall. In the center of the country, as you go up in altitude, the temperature gets cooler. On the Atlantic coast, temperatures are higher and it rains a lot.

In general, maximum temperatures range between 26°C and 32°C during the rainy season and between 30°C and 35°C during the dry season. Obviously, the altitude of the mountainous regions influences the maximum temperatures downwards. You can travel in Nicaragua all year round, and each season has its own attractions.
